Lucas Wang, Chief Executive Officer / Partner
Prior to founding TMI, Lucas Wang was a Partner at WI Harper for six years. He led the TMT (Telecommunication, Media and Technologies) practice for WI Haper’s Taipei and Beijing offices. His work in Beijing included working closely with Kaifu Lee’s Innovation Work to facilitate investment activities. During his tenure, Lucas led investments in SemiLEDs (Nasdaq: LEDS, 2011) and 21Vianet (Nasdaq: VNET, 2011), and also early stage investment in SNS Plus (Taiwan) and Leiyoo (Beijing). Before WI Harper, he worked an an Investment Manager in the Corporate Venture Department of Microelectronics Technology (MTI, Taiwan Stock Exchange: 2314), a leading company in the satellite/telecommunication sector. As an Investment Manager at MTI, Lucas oversaw MTI’s strategic investments in the IT / Display / Wireless spaces. At MTI, Lucas also led an internal RFID startup and successfully helped the subsidiary gain traction in overseas markets.
Lucas holds an MBA degree from the National Sun Yat-Sen University, and a B.A. in Finance from the National Taiwan University in Taiwan
Kevin Ho, Chief Investment Officer / Partner
Kevin Ho serves as Vice President of ITIC ( Investing Arm of ITRI), responsible for investment evaluation, due diligence, and other venture operational activities. He was stationed in US to manage portfolios and develop new investment in past 6 years, gained experiences to work with entrepreneurs. His previous deals include Kiss Technology(acquired by Cisco), Teknovus (acquire by Broadcom), Force10 Networks(acquired by Dell), Azalea Networks ( acquired by Aruba Networks), Array Networks (TSE: 3664).
Kevin has 18 years experiences of industry analysis, strategic planning and business development in ICT(Internet , Communications & Telecom) applications/services and opto-electronics industry. Prior to joining ITIC, He worked for ITRI USA, CCL/ITRI and OES/ITRI, there he focused on international technology collaboration, industry analysis and system engineering.
Kevin was in charge of the strategic planning program of Taiwan’s wireless industry development, has also been invited to be the lecturer at National Telecom Talent Training program. He holds a M.S. degree in opto-electronics science research from National Central University, and B.S. in Physics from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan.
Mark Hsu, Partner
Mark has been a serial entrepreneur since 1994 when he co-founded Sinanet, the predecessor company to Sina.com. In 1999, he co-founded Skysoft, the maker of KKman, the #1 BBS software, and KKBox, the most successful music streaming service in Taiwan. Mark is also founder and chairman at Envision Study Group, an education company that spans Taiwan, Thailand and China. He is an active angel investor and mentor to entrepreneurs in Taiwan.
Mark holds a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University.
Alvin Woon, Partner
Alvin Woon is one of the founder of Plurk.com, a social network with a focus on game mechanics and short message. He also started 無聊.com, stupidmap.com and other various social web projects. He has previously held web engineering positions at Knowledge Marketing, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Galtnet. He had given talks at TEDx, FOWA and GoMobile and run workshops in Asia trying to promote the importance of user interface design on the web.
Alvin holds a B.Sc degree majoring in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, US.
Tiffany Wu was previously Vice President of Pinehurst Advisors, a boutique VC & financialy advisory firm that helps start-ups in the education, “lifestyle” services, niche media & internet sectors obtain seed stage funding. She has also worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers as an auditor and consultant and Taipei Fubon Bank as a private banker.
Tiffany holds an MBA degree from University of Cambridge and B.A. in Accounting from National Taiwan University.
Joyce Hsu focuses on the entertainment and media industry, also is well acquainted with the field of Internet in China and Taiwan. She was previously the senior marketing and public relation manager in Sina Weibo. As one of the core members of Sina Weibo overseas BD team at the early stage, she has successfully laid a firm foundation of Sina Weibo in Taiwan by assisting celebrities from overseas and entertainment-related companies to execute their promotion plans.
Joyce also worked for ERA Ticket the biggest online ticket selling company in Taiwan. She was responsible for developing the integrated marketing plans of the ERA Communications Inc., including the departments of TV and magazine.
Joyce holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Shih Hsin University. She also used to work as a financial journalist.
Entrepreneur in Residence
Jason spent his undergraduate career at the University of Florida majoring in Mechanical Engineering, with a secondary focus on art and design. He later received a Master’s degree from Dartmouth College, and participated in a two year marketing program at Microsoft in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
During university and graduate school he started several mobile software/hardware companies, the most well known one was Mobius Audio. Mobius created a wireless portable MP3 player the year before Apple announced the original iPod.
Jason got an early start in smartphone technology at Microsoft, as a Product Manager for the early versions of the Windows Mobile OS. Two years later, he moved onto Motorola, product managing an early mobile advertising network, imaging, music, and movie cloud services, and smartphone hardware. One of his products, the Motorola ZN5 cameraphone, won a Pogie Award for the best tech products of the year from the New York Times in 2008. Jason also worked in Germany for Audi, as a product manager for the Audi navigation and entertainment system and telematics service.
Jason’s path then led him to Taipei in early 2010, after HTC recruited him to lead their global cloud service business. As a senior director, he report directly to Peter Chou and Fred Liu. While at HTC, Jason recruited and managed a global team of roughly 150 people in Taipei, Shanghai, Seattle, Paris, and Minsk, and led the acquisitions of several startups.
Bernard is a business leader with diverse experience as an engineer, management consultant, and product expert. His most recent role was Regional Director of Ad Network and Platform at Yahoo!, managing their display ad network and exchange. To drive these two new businesses in the region, Bernard built the team from the ground up. In 2.5 years, he grew revenue to tens of millions USD in 9 Asian countries, supported by 200+ cross functional staff including sales, operations, and product development. Before Yahoo!, Bernard was a management consultant at Bain & Company, where he consulted for clients in China retail, telecom, and private equity sectors. Bernard began his career as telecom semiconductor engineer in the US.
Bernard is currently on the Advisory Board of Turn, a global leader in digital advertising technology.
Bernard left Yahoo! end of last year, responding to his entrepreneurial calling. He spent the last few months launching a publishing platform that focuses on lifestyle content, supported by a network of some of the top fashion and lifestyle bloggers in Hong Kong. He is now in search for his next project, with a few ideas in the education and advertising space.
Bernard holds an M.B.A. from MIT Sloan School of Management, plus a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering as well as a B.A. in Economics from University of Waterloo.
